Our Cows

We’d love for you to meet our Jersey cows. These girls spent their days contentedly grazing in the pastures at Arrow Hill.

We have been milking since October 2019 – beginning at our 5 acre homestead and then moving our operation to our 22 acre farm in early 2023.

We rotate pasture daily – meaning everyday the cows get new grass to graze. We cut our own hay – from our own fields as well as a couple other field off farm that we manage. We do not spray our pastures or hay fields to treat for weeds nor do we use synthetic fertilizers – opting instead to spread manures on the fields.

We are a grass fed dairy. Our cows eat only fresh grass during the warm months and they eat hay during the winter. At milking time, our gals receive a scoop of high protein, non-GMO grass based feed. This gives them extra protein as well as keeps them occupied while being milked. They receive NO other feed.

Buttercup

Buttercup was our first family cow. We purchased her in September of 2019 and when she calved at the end of October 2019, we began milking her. She is a laid back, gentle cow who is easy to milk and gives lots of cream.

Brevi

We purchased Brevi in April of 2021. She had a few issues – she has a dead quarter (meaning one of her four quarters/teats does not give milk), a docked tail and did not like to be milked. It has been a joy to watch her body condition improve with us – quality grass and minerals have turned her into a gorgeous cow.

Lolli

Lolli was born in July 2021 – right in our backyard. She was the first heifer calf born on our farm. Her mother is Buttercup. She was Weston’s 2022 show calf. She is due to calve in July 2023 – and we hope she milks as pleasantly as her sweet mama!

Maple was Weston’s 2023 show calf. She was born in July 2022, purchased off farm from a farm in Newnan, GA. She placed 2nd in her weight class at the Georgia National Junior Livestock Show in February 2023. She is our friendliest gal – everyone adores Maple!

Mabel

Miss Mabel was born in May 2023. She is Brevi’s heifer calf and we hope she grows to be as beautiful as her mama. Right now, the plan is for her to be Weston’s 2024 show calf!
